Aeromechanical Conveyors: Advantages

January 22, 2016

Aeromechanical conveyors have proven advantages that make them suitable for many bulk material handling situations. This blog examines some of the features and benefits of aeromechanical conveyors, highlighting those that make these versatile conveyors suitable for different applications.

AEROMECHANICAL CONVEYOR BASICS

Aeromechanical conveyors, such as the Powderflight line offered by UniTrak, operate on a simple principle. Within a steel tube, a wire rope with evenly spaced discs travels at high speed, running in sprockets at each end of the conveyor. As material is fed in, the air stream aerates or fluidizes it and carries it to the outlet, where it is discharged by centrifugal force. (Click here to see a video of a Powderflight aeromechanical conveyor in operation.)

Aeromechanical conveyors are capable of moving a wide range of materials, including powders, granules, and small pellets. Materials and products that Powderflight aermomechanicals have successfully conveyed include food ingredients, coffee beans, chemical powders (including titanium dioxide), refractory powders, sand and silica, and more. AEROMECHANICAL CONVEYOR ADVANTAGES

The following are key advantages of aeromechanical conveyors:

  • Effective material transfer. Powderflight aermomechanicals have a high throughput rate and are capable of moving large quantities of material quickly. Most importantly, the basic operating principle, which is similar to that of a pneumatic conveyor, ensures gentle product handling, with no separation of blended product.
  • Dust-tight operation. Because material is conveyed within a fully enclosed tube, aeromechanical conveyors offer dust-tight operation.
  • Versatility. Aeromechanical conveyors are capable of supporting continuous, intermittent or batch-type operations. Within these types of operations, aeromechanicals are capable of moving a wide range of materials, including powders, granules, and pellets. Powderflight conveyors have successfully conveyed hard-to handle materials such as Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) – a notoriously difficult powder to handle due to its propensity to stick and cohere when conveyed.
  • Flexibility. Aeromechanicals are capable of conveying material either vertically or horizontally, and at any angle in between. In addition, Powderflight aeromechanicals have a small footprint and minimal headroom is required for operation.

Powderflight aeromechanicals come in a variety of design choices and configurations that support most applications and process configurations. Component options, such as specialized rope and disk assemblies, discharge options, portable bases, hoppers, flow aids, etc. are also available. To see the full range of design choices, configurations and options available, visit our Powderflight equipment page.

  • Environmentally friendly operation. Powderflight aeromechanicals contribute to sustainable operations with their energy efficiency, low power requirements, and low noise level in operation.

Used in manufacturing and processing facilities worldwide, Powderflight aeromechanical conveyors are proven way to efficiently and effectively move a wide range of materials. Industry leading reliability, application customization, and consistent performance have made Powderflight the choice of producers in a wide array of industries.
