Bulk Material Handling Systems

The term bulk material handling systems refers to the design and production of equipment used to handle loose, dry, bulk materials. The purpose of these systems is to store and transport materials from one location to another within a manufacturing process.
Bulk material handling systems may be comprised of both stationary and mobile equipment. Equipment used may consist of conveyors of various types, unloaders, bins and hoppers, stackers, etc. The word “system” in “bulk material handling systems” refers to the fact that these disparate types of equipment often need to be combined into a well-functioning arrangement for handling material as it moves through its processing journey.
The design and engineering of bulk material handling systems, particularly for large facilities or complex processes, is sometimes carried out by consulting engineering firms whom companies contract directly for that purpose. These firms have the knowledge to recommend the right type of equipment for the process and materials under consideration. Alternatively for smaller applications, companies may choose to work directly with equipment vendors who can provide the engineering know-how needed to successfully their equipment into a well-integrated bulk material handling system.
